Background

We partnered with a leading US research university, an academic home to nearly 80,000 students worldwide, to migrate one of their websites from on-premise to the cloud. The web portal is a publicly accessible engineering experiment station that is key in reviewing the state's energy standards. As part of the institution's strategic goals, the client decided to accelerate their move to the AWS Cloud.

The challenge

As the research university pursued rapid growth and innovation, it faced difficulties scaling its digital infrastructure. They encountered downtime risks and inconsistencies across servers, hardware, and network systems. To align with their renewed digital strategy, the team needed to modernize the university's IT infrastructure by migrating services from on-premise systems to a cloud environment for their website.

Developed a migration plan for each workload and a pilot to test and refine the cloud strategy.

Migrated two on-premise VMs—to the AWS cloud by replicating the existing setup.

Set up EC2 backups with automated snapshots of attached volumes.

Implemented a server backup policy with weekly automated backups.

We executed a streamlined lift and shift strategy to replicate their existing setup precisely.

Implemented a robust backup solution using AWS Lifecycle Manager, ensuring readiness for ongoing cloud management.
